FORT TILDEN
The existing site of Fort Tilden is a vast piece of landscape with homogeneous character. The lack of perspective originates from the absence of topography, making it hard to appreciate the natural bodies of water. The proposed design creates a duality in the landscape, transforming the site into a perfect destination that would embrace important physical, mental and spiritual states of human beings. The bleacher program slices through the site creating two main characters: a contemplation scape and an education scape. The labyrinth of trunks leads the visitor along a journey of introspection, living in opposing realities with the Landscape Laboratory. The Lab educates about the vast variety of flora and fauna of Fort Tilden, and the surrounding park becomes a testing ground for new sustainable practices. The isolated and wild attitude of the Labyrinth coexists with the social and cheerful attitude of the greenhouses, creating one single reality: a Landscape between two waters where the topography converges the contrasting perspectives within the site.
